IRN-BRU FANSWAGS recruitment drive

On Saturday we were at Firhill for the Partick Thistle v Hamilton Academicals match. To be more precise we were there to sign up as many people as possible for the IRN-BRU Phenomenal Footy, Fans’ WAGS competition that we’re launching in February. To help in this respect we parked an IRN-BRU open-top double-decker bus in the car park to boost our profile. This proved to be a mixed blessing. As well as being a profile booster, it’s also a highly effective nutter magnet.

Everyone’s (surely) aware of the WAG phenomenon. As in Wives And Girlfriends. The tabloids are full of stories about them - women with more money than sense, famous only for being the other halves of professional footballers with more money than talent.

For IRN-BRU’s SFL sponsorship we’re not interested in players’ WAGS, we’re interested in fans’ WAGS. We want to find the top fans’ WAG in the SFL and also the team with the best collective set of WAGS. This will be decided by an online competition which launches next month. There will be a (hopefully addictive), head-to-head voting mechanism based on what makes each entrant the ideal WAG with whom to go to a game, along with corresponding individual and team league tables based on % win rate. To get the whole thing off the ground we need to sign up a critical mass of WAGS before launch. Hence the trip to Firhill to sign up as many “Jag WAGS” as possible.

For some reason the stewards saw fit to throw a protective cordon around the nutter magnet after the game, but this didn’t stop us recruiting a decent number of Partick WAGS before it all got too cold and too deserted.

If you’re an SFL fan and you think that you or your WAG has got what it takes then you can enter the competition at the FANSWAGS website. You’ll need to upload a photo and complete a couple of questions about best qualities. By entering you’ll be eligible for a prize draw to win a Sony PSP.
